Lyrical /Contemporary Dance
Lyrical Dance is a fusion of ballet and modern dance techniques. The classes are predominantly choreography-based which is why it is advisable students take an additional Ballet or Jazz class to support their technique. The Lyrical style incorporates a lot of pedestrian moves, fused with more challenging graceful and fluid classical movements to create an organic and dramatic feel. Routines are based around lyrics, musical interpretation, feeling and emotion and, although a strong classical-based technique is important, feeling and interpretation is crucial. The classes prepare the students for Contemporary Dance. Suitable for students aged 9-11.
Contemporary Dance employs systems and methods found in modern dance and postmodern dance. It draws on modern dance techniques as well as newer philosophies of movement that are less structured than many classical dance techniques allowing for greater freedom of movement and expression. Students will be introduced to dance techniques and movement philosophies that focus on dynamic alignment, breath and core support, initiation and sequencing, spacial and weight awareness, improvisation and story-telling through movement. Suitable for students aged 12+
