Adelene Chua
From the age of 7, Adelene knew all she wanted to do was dance. This passion and love for the art led to her graduation from the Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD) in 2000 with classical ballet as her major. From these classical and technical beginnings, Adelene has developed an amazing skill set across a variety of different disciplines, making her a versatile and impressive performer and teacher.
Her true callings came in jazz and hip hop dance at age 15 and Adelene has made these forms her own ever since. She more recently took her skills to a whole new level by competing in the German Hip Hop Championships, teaching workshops, as well as putting in a six month stint at the prestigious Broadway Dance Centre in New York City. It was there, in the hottest dance scene in the world, that Adelene fine-tuned her moves and style to the extent that she was awarded the outstanding student award for November 2009.
Returning to Singapore in early 2010, Adelene showed the city what they’d been missing out on, once again becoming a regular fixture in corporate events, studios and schools, as well as big performances. These include MediaCorp events, performing alongside stars such as Hong Jun Yang, JJ Lin, Taufik Batisah, and Hong Kong's Lisa Wang. Adelene was made Head of Dance for the Singapore Musical Theatre School, and even had the privilege of choreographing and performing for the Kobe Bryant Asian Tour during the NBA star’s 2009 visit.
With sharp moves, flavour and a swagger straight from the street, ‘Adedance’ loves sharing her experiences and knowledge with her students to help them grow and be the very best dancer they can be.
Now based in Hong Kong, Adelene is looking to continue her high-caliber work in commercial dance and choreography as well as teaching. Her wealth of experience and wonderful rapport with students and fellow-dancers alike sets her to be an ideal part of any performance, studio or school. She joins Red Shoe Dance Company in January 2012.
